It has come to my attention that Atlanta has become the second coming of the Harlem Renaissance, but this time with more gays. The women and the kids whip out the freakum attire at every event, the social life is hot, and the stars come out to play. Necole Bitchie is seriously catching up with Concrete Loop on the celeb blog tip, and is definetly shitting on MTO. Check her out @ Necole Bitchie

I haven't had the chance to check out much of Late Boots yet, but I'm feeling the fashion ant the party pictures. It has a lot of what I was talking about in the previous paragraph. No time to elaborate, I'm late for class. Late Boots

Style Spotlight: Taz Arnold

Photobucket
It's almost impossible to have a more outrageously dope style than my icon for the ages, M.I.A., but this guy has "male version" written all over him. I hadn't ever heard of him before yesterday when a Twitter acquaintance mentioned him in the same context of black-male edge cutters Kanye and Pharrell. That's when I decided to do my research (although it's not yet complete).
I've found that he is not just a fashionisto, but also a producer, and he is in good with Kanye. From pictures I've seen, I can tell that he's one of those people who stores shit (clothes) in the house from decades gone by, and throws it on. I can relate to that. I'm feeling the prints and the loud colors.
This probably won't be the last you've heard of him from me.

Indie Track: Metronomy - Not Made For Love (Joakim Remix)

Photobucket
Metronomy (above) in the video for their song "Radio Ladio".

"Not Made For Love" is a cool track. The beginning is a bit annoyingly all synth, but once the beat drops and the lyrics kick in the song is pretty dope. The alien voice at the end is kind of creepy, though. That may have been added by Joakim, though. The Fader called him a "Goober". I was temporarily addicted to this song, but I think I'm over it now. That doesn't mean no one else can be.

Natalie Portman In "Closer"

This scene is amazing. Alice's (Natalie Portman) wit is amazing in it. I want to always answer questions the way she does here, 24 hours a day. Just kidding, but it's definitely sexy.
This movie is about deceit and how love is really just a lie.
"There's a girl out there named Venus. What's her real name?"
"Pluto."

"Sparkle" x "School Daze"

This is a scene from the Movie Sparkle (The title character starts out in the middle). This is where the song "Something he Can Feel" comes from. The group is composed of three sisters. In this scene the oldest/lead singer, Sister, is leaving home to go live with her abusive boyfriend and she's on the road to death.
Don't knock this movie because it's old. It has a good storyline to it. If you';ve ever seen Glitter , they definetly stole that plot from the end of this movie. That's how good it is. EnVogue stole a song from it and Mariah Carey stole the story line and title.

This is a scene from School Daze, directed by Spike Lee. He's said that if he could film this over again that he would get rid of the short chick.
Don't knock this movie either. It says a lot about the division between black people when it comes to skin tone, hair texture, and Greek organizations.

Video: Pagan Poetry - Bjork

You'll never find another artist like Bjork. Every one of her videos is an artist's dream. She hand picked her directors during the 90s and I'm sure directors were and still are lining up to direct one of her videos.
This is one of my favorites.

8 Years Later...R.I.P. Aaliyah

Photobucket
August 25, 2001 was a tragic day that has already been put in the history books. On that day, Aaliyah Dana Haughton, her entourage and a pilot, all died in a tragic plane crash in the Bahamas. That incident truly taught me to cherish life because you can be here one day and the next, you're gone.
Since her death, no one has been able to take her place, though some have tried (Ciara), and the remake of the movie Sparkle, she was rumored to be starring in, has not even made it to pre-production.
Now all we're left with is market over saturated with Beyonce'.

Age Aint Nuthin But a Number.

Here's an interesting track from a group/soloist called Washed Out. I'm really liking the feel to it. It's undeniably indie and I like that.

Eyewear Spotlight: Urban Outfitters

We all need glasses in our lives. They "accessorize the face" as a friend once told me. They don't always have to have shaded lenses, either. Glasses can make you look like a totally different person, and if they're the right pair, they can empress the masses. Here are some I found online, but FYI: the best pairs are found in China Town, NYC.

The Clear Bottom Classic Reader glasses are on sale @ Urban Outfitters Online for 10 dolla! You can walk around town looking like the man, Malcolm X.
Photobucket
They're also available in Torte
Photobucket
Dad's Reader is also Available for 10 Dolla. @ Urban Outfitters Online
Photobucket
If you're ballin', The Super Flat Top glasses are also on UO for a mere 131 dolla.
Photobucket
And the Super Francis Flat Tops are 188 dolla @ UO.

I wouldn't post anything I didn't like.

I like this song. It's got a good vibe to it. It makes you feel happy somewhere inside, unless you're trying to deny it or you're some kind of tough guy, thug or rat (then you might not like it).

Who puts Blush on their Forehead?

Photobucket
Kim, that's who. This is a picture of her at an appearance/performance in France. According to Concrete Loop, she made $75,000 for the appearance. This is just one example of how when you've been successful in the past, people will pay you thousands of dollars to show up at their event.

Spike Lee x Michael Jackson Block Party

Photobucket
Spike Lee is planning a Brooklyn block party in honor of Michael Jackson's birthday.

On August 29th, what would have been Jackson's 51st birthday, Lee and "the great borough of Brooklyn" will take over Fort Greene park with, according to The Root, "DJ Spinna... spinning all things Jackson, from the Jackson 5 to the Jacksons to Michael Jackson."

Brooklyn borough president Marty Markowitz, who has already named June 30th "Spike Lee Day," is set to declare Aug. 29 "Michael Jackson Day."

New Video: Pussycat Dolls - Hush

There's so many reasons to watch this video. First off, the other chicks in the group officially don't matter. This is a Nicole video. When the video goes disco, Nicole is the one in the Diana Ross wig. 2nd, Melody, the other singer in the group, has a bad hair day in the video. She's officially meaningless. I was pulling for her for a while, until she started dating Bow Wow.

Complex Mag Sept/Oct Issue

Photobucket
I absolutely LOVE Complex Magazine. It's been my favorite mag for about 6 years, now. In the beginning years, Complex fused together art, style, music, and sexy girls (That's how you build readership!). The music part has suffered through the years, but in it's latest issue, the mag features Keri Hilson(Style Side) and Kid Cudi(Mag Side) on it's covers. The artwork is fierce, too.

Rebirth of Shoulder Pads

Photobucket
Photobucket
I know I'm a little late on this one, but I pose a question to you: "Are we witnessing the revival of shoulder pads" My answer is "Yes". We have seen Bee Bee & Ri Ri do it so it's being revived, but will the world catch on? Only time will tell...

An Ode to Lachapelle

Photobucket
David Lachapelle has been a source of inspiration for me since I was in high school. He's been around for a long time, and he's most famous for his celebrity portraits. His initial appeal is his use of high contrast colors, but I love the translation in his photos. You can see one photo portraying Kanye as Jesus or another where a dinosaur is eating ole girl out. Currently, he has exhibits touring all across the world. One, which is currently on display in Italy, is called the Rape of Africa. I have yet to see anything from it, but I am really interested to see what the photos are like.
He also directed the "It's my Life" video for No Doubt, and the movie Rize.

Is the song really about Natalie Portman? You tell me.

Artist Spotlight: Gordan Parks (1912-2006)

Photobucket

Parks, Gordan 'American Gothic' 1942

Gordan Parks is one of the first black photographers. He caught raw moments. His pictures did a lot to show America what black America was like. He also did fashion photography. He's some one I have recently heard of, but I like his work and respect him as not only one of the first black photographers, but one of the first photographers ever.

Hot Video: Shakira - She Wolf

Shakira - She Wolf (La Loba) from Foreverinmortal on Vimeo.

Just when you thought Shakira couldn't dance any weirder ("weirder is interchangeable with "better") she does. The song is about being a nice attentive girl/boyfriend and harboring a Lady GaGa-like freak in the closet. It's currently #21 on Billboard's Top 100. In addition to random dancing, Shakira bust some never before seen vagina shots out . Imagine dancing w/ her at the club....just imagine it...and keep that image with you for the rest of the day.

New Music: Nina Sky - Beautiful People

"Nina Sky? Haven't they been inactive since that hit they had in '03, Move Ya Body?"
Nah, they've been working on a look, a deal and a new album. This track, Beautiful People, is playing on radio and gaining buz. I think it's a cool song. It's dance-friendly, which is what I think these two should stick to while they're trying to rebuild a fan base. I was a little upset when someone said they liked the song at first, but when they heard it was Nina Sky they didn't like it as much. The industry is hard to break into, and even harder to stay in so I look up to these two because after things went bad they found ways to keep working. Check out their myspace http://myspace.com/ninasky. Their new hair cuts are getting a bit out of control.
